Sunan Abi Dawud 2949 (Book 20, Hadith 22) #23239
Following the Commands of Allah

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ is not in control of giving or withholding from people, but rather he is just a messenger who follows the commands of Allah.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: It is not on my own that I give you or withhold from you: I am just a treasure, putting it where I have been commanded.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God’s commandments

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of obedience and following the commands of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad was sent as a messenger to deliver God's message and act as a treasure, putting it where he has been commanded. This means that even though he was given authority over his followers, he did not have any power to give or withhold from them on his own accord. He only followed what God commanded him to do. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to obey God's commandments and be obedient in our faith. We should also remember that no matter how powerful we may become, we are still subject to God's will and must follow His orders above all else.
