Sunan Abi Dawud 2922 (Book 19, Hadith 38) #23212
Abrogation of a Quranic Verse

SUMMARY: The hadith explains the abrogation of a Quranic verse which was established to give due portion to those who pledged their right hand to the Emigrants when they came to Medina.

Ibn 'Abbas explained the following Qur'anic verse : "To those also, to whom your right hand was pledged, give your portion". When the Emigrants came to Medina. they inherited from the Helpers without any blood-relationship with them for the brotherhood which the Messenger of Allah established between them. When the following verse was revealed: "To (benefit) everyone we have appointed shares and heirs to property left by parent and relatives". it abrogated the verse: "To those also, to whom your right hand was pledged, give their due portion". This alliance was made for help, well wishing and cooperation. Now a legacy can be made for him. (The right to)inheritance was abolished.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the abrogation of a verse in the Quran which was established when the Emigrants came to Medina. The verse stated that those who pledged their right hand should be given their due portion, however, this was later abrogated and replaced with another verse that allowed for inheritance without any blood-relationship between them. This alliance was made for help, well wishing and cooperation among them. This teaches us that we should always strive for cooperation and help each other out in times of need as it is an important part of our faith as Muslims.
