Sunan Abi Dawud 2823 (Book 16, Hadith 36) #23113
Eating Animals Slaughtered in Unconventional Ways

SUMMARY: A man was unable to find an animal to slaughter, so he stabbed a pregnant she-camel in the upper part of its breast until it bled and then informed the Prophet about it. The Prophet then ordered him to eat it.

Narrated Ata' ibn Yasar: A man of Banu Harith was pasturing a pregnant she-camel in one of the ravines of Uhud, (he saw that) it was about to die; he could find nothing to slaughter it; he took a stake and stabbed it in the upper part of its breast until he made its blood flow. He then came to the Prophet and informed him about that, and he ordered him to eat it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Trust Allah's judgement, Strive within one's means, Make use of limited resources/options available

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a man from the tribe of Banu Harith who was pasturing a pregnant she-camel in one of the ravines of Uhud. He noticed that it was about to die and he could not find any other animal to slaughter for food. So, he took a stake and stabbed it in the upper part of its breast until its blood flowed out. He then went to inform the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about what happened and asked for his advice on what should be done with this animal. The Prophet ﷺ ordered him to eat it as there were no other options available at that time. This hadith teaches us that when we are faced with difficult situations where we have limited resources or options, we should still strive our best within our means and trust Allah's judgement on our actions as He knows best what is right for us even if others may not agree with us or understand why we did something certain way.
