Prohibiting Killing Animals in Confinement

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade killing animals in confinement.

Narrated Hisham b. Zaid: I entered upon al-Hakam b. Ayyub along with Anas. He saw some youths or boys who had set up a hen and shooting at it. Anas said: The Messenger of Allah forbade to kill an animal in confinement.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be kind and merciful towards all creatures; Respect Allah's creation; Avoid activities which may harm any living creature unnecessarily; Provide proper care when keeping animals in captivity .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of killing animals that are confined or caged, such as birds kept for hunting or chickens kept for eggs. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to be kind and merciful to all creatures, even those that are not free to roam around like wild animals. He said that it is wrong to take away the life of an animal when it cannot defend itself or escape from its captor. This hadith teaches us the importance of being compassionate towards all living things, regardless of their size or strength, and reminds us that Allah has given us dominion over them but not permission to abuse them.

We should also remember that Allah has created everything with a purpose and we should respect His creation by treating them kindly and with mercy whenever possible. We should also strive to protect our environment by avoiding activities which may harm any living creature unnecessarily, such as hunting for sport or keeping animals in captivity without providing proper care for them.
