Sunan Abi Dawud 2738 (Book 15, Hadith 262) #23028
Rewards for Killing and Capturing Enemies in the Battle of Badr

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave rewards to those who killed or captured enemies in the Battle of Badr.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah said on the day of Badr: He who kills a man will get such-and-such, and he who captivates a man will get such-and-such. The narrator then transmitted the rest of the tradition in a similar manner. The tradition of Khalid is more perfect.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive to be just and fair when dealing with our enemies even if they are not Muslim .

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of Badr, Prophet Muhammad PBUH announced rewards for those who killed or captured enemies. This was a battle between Muslims and non-believers which took place in 624 CE near Medina. The Prophet PBUH promised that whoever kills an enemy will receive a certain reward, and whoever captures an enemy will receive another reward. This hadith is important because it shows us how much importance Islam places on justice and fairness even during times of war. It also teaches us that we should always strive to be just and fair when dealing with our enemies, even if they are not Muslim.
