Show compassion towards those in need; do not take advantage of people's ignorance or hunger by punishing them unjustly; treat others with justice and mercy even if they have done something wrong .

This hadith speaks of an incident where Abbad ibn Shurahbil entered a garden in Medina due to drought and hunger. He ate some of the corn from the garden without permission from its owner, who then beat him up and took away his garment as punishment. When Abbad went to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for help, he was told that it is wrong to punish someone who is ignorant or hungry. Instead of punishing him further, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ordered that Abbad's garment be returned to him along with one or half a Wasq of corn as compensation for what he had taken from the garden. This hadith teaches us about compassion towards those who are in need or lack knowledge; it also teaches us not to take advantage of people's ignorance or hunger by punishing them unjustly.
