Sunan Abi Dawud 2448 (Book 14, Hadith 136) #22739
The Beloved Fast and Prayer of Prophet Dawud (AS).

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the fast and prayer of Prophet Dawud (AS) is most beloved to Allah.

'Abd Allah b. 'And (b. al-'As) said: The Messenger of Allah said to me: The fast most liked by Allah is the one observed by Dawud (David), and the prayer dearer to Allah is the one offered by Dawud (David): he would sleep half the night, and stand (in prayer) one-third of it, and sleep one-sixth of it. He would go without fasting one day, and fast the other day.

According to this hadith, Prophet Dawud would sleep half the night, stand in prayer for one-third of it, and sleep one-sixth of it. He would go without fasting one day, and fast the other day. This shows us that we should strive to make our worship pleasing to God by following a balanced routine between rest and worship. We should also remember that fasting is an important part of our faith as Muslims; however, we should not overburden ourselves with too much fasting or too little rest as this can lead to exhaustion or burnout in our spiritual journey with God Almighty.
