Sunan Abi Dawud 2388 (Book 14, Hadith 76) #22679
Fasting Despite Sexual Defilement

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ was overtaken by dawn in the state of sexual defilement when he was fasting.

Narrated 'Aishah and Umm Salamah, wives of the Prophet : The Messenger of Allah would be overtaken by the dawn when he was in a state of sexual defilement. The narrator 'Abd Allah al-Adhrami said in his version: During Ramadan, due to sexual intercourse and no owing to a dream (ie nocturnal emission), and would fast. Abu Dawud said: How brief is this sentence uttered by the narrator, this is, "he was overtaken by daw when he was in the state of sexual defilement"? The tradition says: The Prophet was overtaken by dawn in the state of sexual defilement when he was fasting.

Strive to fulfill religious obligations
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of fulfilling religious obligations even when faced with difficult circumstances. It is narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would sometimes be in a state of sexual defilement due to intercourse or nocturnal emission, yet he still fasted during Ramadan despite this. This shows us that we should strive to fulfill our religious obligations even if we are facing difficulty or hardship, as it is an important part of our faith. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us about self-discipline and perseverance; it shows us that we should not give up on our goals just because something may seem hard or challenging at first glance.
