Sunan Abi Dawud 2387 (Book 14, Hadith 75) #22678
Embracing While Fasting

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) gave permission to an old man to embrace his wife while fasting, but forbade a young man from doing the same.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: A man asked the Prophet whether one who was fasting could embrace (his wife) and he gave him permission; but when another man came to him, and asked him, he forbade him. The one to whom he gave permission was an old man and the one whom he forbade was a youth.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect limits set by Allah SWT & His Messenger (ﷺ) , Be mindful of one's actions & intentions when performing any action , Be aware that different people may have different levels of strength & ability .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the permissibility of embracing one's spouse while fasting. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gave permission to an elderly man who asked him if it was permissible for him to do so, but when another younger man asked the same question, he forbade him from doing so. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and respect the limits set by Allah SWT and His Messenger ﷺ. We should also be aware that different people may have different levels of strength and ability, and thus must act accordingly. For example, an elderly person may not have as much energy or strength as a younger person; therefore they should not do something which could potentially harm them or make them feel uncomfortable in any way. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us about being mindful of our intentions when performing any action; if we are doing something solely for Allah SWT then He will reward us for it in ways unimaginable!
