Breaking the Fast with Dates and Water

SUMMARY: When fasting, one should break their fast with dates or water.

Narrated Salman ibn Amir: The Prophet said: When one of you is fasting, he should break his fast with dates; but if he cannot get any, then (he should break his fast) with water, for water is purifying.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنِ الرَّبَابِ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، عَمِّهَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ صَائِمًا فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى التَّمْرِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدِ التَّمْرَ فَعَلَى الْمَاءِ فَإِنَّ الْمَاءَ طَهُورٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of breaking one's fast during Ramadan. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when a person is fasting, they should break their fast with dates if they can get them. If not, then they can use water to break their fast as it is purifying. This hadith teaches us that we should be grateful for what we have and make do with what we have access to in order to fulfill our religious obligations. It also teaches us the importance of cleanliness and purity in our lives as Muslims.
