Sunan Abi Dawud 1601 (Book 9, Hadith 46) #21893
Paying Zakat and Receiving Protection

SUMMARY: This hadith is about a sub-clan of the tribe Fahm who used to pay one bag of honey out of ten bags as zakat and were given two woods as protected lands by Sufyan ibn Abdullah ath-Thaqafi.

'Amr bin Shu'aib, on his father's authority, said that his grandfather reported: That was Banu Shababah, a sub-clan of the tribe Fahm. The narrator then transmitted the tradition something similar. He added:(They used to pay) one bag (of honey) out of ten bags. Sufyan ibn Abdullah ath-Thaqafi gave them two woods as protected lands. They used to give as much honey (as zakat) as they gave to the Messenger of Allah . He (Sufyan) used to protect their woods.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a sub-clan of the tribe Fahm who used to pay one bag of honey out of ten bags as zakat. Zakat is an obligatory form of charity in Islam which involves giving away a portion from one's wealth for the benefit and welfare of others. In return for their payment, they were given two woods as protected lands by Sufyan ibn Abdullah ath-Thaqafi. This shows that when we give charity or do good deeds, Allah rewards us with protection and blessings in return. It also teaches us that it is important to be generous with our wealth and help those in need even if it means sacrificing something from our own possessions.
