Sunan Abi Dawud 1434 (Book 8, Hadith 19) #21726
Different Ways of Performing Witr Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ praised Abu Bakr and Umar for their different ways of performing the witr prayer.

Narrated AbuQatadah: The Prophet asked AbuBakr: When do you observe the witr? He replied: I observe the witr prayer in the early hours of the night. The Prophet asked Umar: When do you observe the witr? He replied: At the end of the night. He then said to AbuBakr: This has followed it with care; and he said to Umar: He has followed it with strength.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow your faith in whatever way you choose to do so as long as you strive to do your best.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith is about the Prophet's appreciation for two companions, Abu Bakr and Umar, who performed the witr prayer in different ways. The Prophet praised Abu Bakr for following it with care and Umar for following it with strength. This hadith teaches us that there is no one right way to practice our faith; rather, we should strive to do our best in whatever way we choose. We can learn from this that even if two people are doing something differently, both can be equally valid and appreciated by God.
