Sunan Abi Dawud 1425 (Book 8, Hadith 10) #21717
Supplication of Witr Prayer

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the words that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught to Hasan ibn Ali to say during witr prayer.

Narrated Al-Hasan ibn Ali: The Messenger of Allah taught me some words that I say during the witr. (The version of Ibn Jawwas has: I say them in the supplication of the witr) They were: "O Allah, guide me among those Thou hast guided, grant me security among those Thou hast granted security, take me into Thy charge among those Thou hast taken into Thy charge, bless me in what Thou hast given, guard me from the evil of what Thou hast decreed, for Thou dost decree, and nothing is decreed for Thee. He whom Thou befriended is not humbled. Blessed and Exalted art Thou, our Lord".

The supplication includes asking Allah for guidance, security, taking into His charge and blessing in what He has given us. It also includes asking Allah for protection from the evil of what He has decreed as nothing is decreed for Him and whoever He befriends will not be humbled. The values taught in this hadith are humility, gratitude and reliance on Allah's mercy and grace.
