Sunan Abi Dawud 1142 (Book 2, Hadith 753) #21434
Giving Alms on Festival Days

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) delivered a sermon on the festival day and then went to the women, taking Bilal with him. He likely commanded them to give alms, which they did by putting their jewellery.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah came out on 'Id (the festival day). He first offered the prayer and then delivered the sermon . He then went to women, taking Bilal with him. The narrator Ibn Kathir said: The probable opinion of Shu'bah is that he commanded them to give alms. So they began to put (their jewellery).

QUICK LESSONS:
Give alms in charity regularly especially during special occasions such as festivals or holidays
EXPLANATIONS:
On festival days, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would deliver a sermon and then go to the women, taking his companion Bilal with him. It is believed that he commanded them to give alms in charity as an act of worship. The women responded by giving away their jewellery as an offering of charity. This hadith teaches us that giving charity is an important part of our faith and should be done regularly, especially during special occasions such as festivals or holidays. It also shows us how generous people can be when it comes to helping others in need; even if it means sacrificing something valuable like jewellery for the sake of Allah's pleasure.
