Delivering Sermons in the Presence of the Prophet (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) would deliver sermons standing and then sit down without saying anything.

Jabir b. Samurah said: I saw the Prophet would deliver the sermon standing, then sit down without saying anything. The narrator then reported the tradition in full.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of your words when speaking with others; strive for brevity in conversations; respect other people's time by not taking too long while speaking; give others a chance to speak if they have something important or interesting they want share/ask questions about .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ delivered his sermons to his listeners. He would stand up and address them with a sermon or speech and then sit down without saying anything else afterwards. This teaches us that we should be mindful of our words when speaking to others as well as being respectful of their time by not taking too long to say what needs to be said. We should also strive for brevity in our conversations so that we can get our point across quickly and effectively while still being respectful of those around us.

The Prophet ﷺ was known for his eloquence when delivering speeches but he also knew when it was time to stop talking so that he could give others a chance to speak or ask questions if they had any. This is an important lesson for all of us; even if we have something important or interesting to say, it is best not to monopolize conversations by talking too much or going off on tangents which are unrelated to the topic at hand.
