Sunan Abi Dawud 853 (Book 2, Hadith 463) #21144
Perfection in Brief Prayer

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the prayer of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) which was brief yet perfect.

Anas b. Malik said: I did not offer prayer behind anyone more brief than the one offered by the Messenger of Allah and that was perfect. When the Messenger of Allah said: "Allah listens to him who praises Him," he stood long we thought that he had omitted something; then he say takbir(Allah is most great) and prostrate, and would sit between the two prostrations so long that we thought that he had omitted something.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful while praying and do not rush through it without paying attention to what you are saying or doing .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the perfection and brevity of Prophet Muhammad's prayer. Anas b. Malik narrates that he never prayed behind anyone more brief than the Messenger of Allah, yet his prayer was perfect. When he said "Allah listens to him who praises Him," he would stand for a long time, making them think that something was omitted from his prayer, but then he would say takbir and prostrate, and sit between two prostrations for a long time again making them think something was omitted from his prayer. This shows us how important it is to be mindful during our prayers and not rush through them without paying attention to what we are saying or doing as this can lead us to miss out on some parts of our prayers unknowingly. It also teaches us that even though we should be mindful during our prayers, they should still be done in a timely manner so as not to take too much time away from other important tasks or duties we have throughout the day.
