Sunan Abi Dawud 724 (Book 2, Hadith 334) #21015
Raising Hands for Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands to shoulder level and said the Takbir (Allah is most great) when he stood up to pray.

Wa’il b.Hujr said: He saw that when the Prophet stood up to pray he raised his hands till they were in front of his shoulders and placed his thumbs opposite his ears; then he uttered the Takbir (Allah is most great).

QUICK LESSONS:
Stand up to pray with your hands raised till they are in front of your shoulders while saying "Allah is most great".

EXPLANATIONS:
When Muslims stand up to pray, they raise their hands in front of their shoulders and place their thumbs opposite their ears. This is done while saying the Takbir, which means “Allah is most great” in Arabic. This action was observed by Wa’il b. Hujr when he saw the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ praying. By raising our hands and saying this phrase, we are expressing our faith that Allah is greater than anything else in this world and that He alone deserves all of our worship and praise.
