Forbidden Practice of Muzabana

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade the practice of Muzabana, which is the selling of fresh fruits for dried fruits by measure.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Messenger forbade Muzabana; and Muzabana means the selling of fresh dates (on the trees) for dried dates by measure and also the selling of fresh grapes for dried grapes by measure.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for fairness in our dealings with others .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ forbade a practice called Muzabana. This was a type of trading where people would exchange fresh fruits such as dates and grapes for dried ones, using measurements to determine how much they were exchanging. The Prophet ﷺ wanted to ensure fairness in trading and so he prohibited this practice. He wanted people to be honest and not take advantage of each other when it came to buying or selling goods. We can learn from this hadith that we should always strive for fairness in our dealings with others, no matter what we are doing or buying or selling. We should also remember that honesty is always the best policy when it comes to dealing with others.
