Teaching Children Prayer and Separate Beds

SUMMARY: This hadith encourages parents to teach their children to pray when they are seven years old and to enforce it when they are ten. It also advises parents to have their children sleep in separate beds.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: The Messenger of Allah said: Command your children to pray when they become seven years old, and beat them for it (prayer) when they become ten years old; and arrange their beds (to sleep) separately.

QUICK LESSONS:
Teach your kids about prayer at 7 years old and enforce it at 10; arrange for your kids to sleep separately.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages parents to teach their children the importance of prayer from a young age. Parents should begin teaching their children about prayer when they turn seven, and then enforce it by beating them if necessary when they turn ten. Additionally, this hadith advises that parents should arrange for their children to sleep in separate beds as a way of instilling discipline in them from an early age. By doing so, the child will learn how important it is for them to be disciplined and follow instructions from an early age which will help shape them into responsible adults later on in life.
