QUICK LESSONS:
Call others with respect
EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is advising people to call each other by his name instead of using his kunyah. A kunyah is a nickname that is usually used for someone who has children and it consists of their first name followed by Abu or Umm and then their eldest son’s name. For example, if someone’s first name was Ali and they had a son named Hassan, then their kunyah would be Abu Hassan. The Prophet ﷺ was advising people to use his own personal name instead of using a nickname for him as he did not have any children at the time. This hadith teaches us that we should respect the names of our elders and show them reverence in all aspects including when we are addressing them or referring to them in conversation.
