Avoiding Provoking Cursing

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against three things that can provoke cursing.

Narrated Mu'adh ibn Jabal: The Messenger of Allah said: Be on your guard against three things which provoke cursing: easing in the watering places and on the thoroughfares, and in the shade (of the tree).

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of how your actions may affect others and strive to act with kindness and consideration towards them.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to be on our guard against three things which can provoke cursing. These are easing in the watering places and on the thoroughfares, and in the shade of a tree. This means that we should not do anything that would cause harm or inconvenience to others when we are at a place where people come to get water such as a well or riverbank; when we are walking along a path or road; and when we are sitting under a tree for shade. We should always be mindful of how our actions may affect others and strive to act with kindness and consideration towards them.
