Prohibiting Certain Containers for Soaking Fruit

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forbade the use of certain containers for soaking fruit.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "(Fruit) would be soaked for the Messenger of Allah SAW in a water skin, and if he did not have a water skin, it would be made for him in a small vessel of stone. And the Messenger of Allah SAW forbade Ad-Dubba' (gourds), An-Naqir, and Al-Muzaffat".

QUICK LESSONS:
Use appropriate tools and materials when performing any task so that we can achieve the best results possible with minimal effort and resources expended .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's prohibition of certain containers for soaking fruit. He forbade Ad-Dubba', An-Naqir, and Al-Muzaffat as vessels to soak fruit in. Ad-Dubba' are gourds, An-Naqir are small earthenware jars, and Al-Muzaffat are large earthenware jars. The Prophet Muhammad did not want these particular vessels to be used because they were not suitable for soaking fruit in due to their size or material composition. Instead, he preferred that a water skin or a small vessel made of stone be used instead as these were more suitable for this purpose. This hadith teaches us that we should always use the most appropriate tools and materials when performing any task so that we can achieve the best results possible with minimal effort and resources expended.
