Prohibited Containers in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forbade the use of certain containers.

Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW forbade Ad-Dubba' (gourds), Al-Hantam, An-Naqir, and Al-Muzaffat".
أَخْبَرَنَا قُرَيْشُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Huraira states that the Prophet Muhammad forbade the use of certain containers such as Ad Dubba’ which is a type of gourd used to store water or other liquids; Al Hantam which is a type of container made from leather; An Naqir which is a type of container made from wood and finally Al Muzaffat which is also a type of wooden container. This prohibition was part of Islamic law or Shari’a and it was meant to ensure that people did not consume any contaminated liquids. This hadith teaches us about the importance for Muslims to follow Islamic laws and regulations even if they may seem insignificant at first glance. It also teaches us about being mindful when consuming food or drinks as we should always make sure that it has been prepared in accordance with Islamic laws and regulations.
