Buying Property After Embracing Islam

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Abu Qatada's experience of buying a garden after embracing Islam.

Narrated Abu Qatada: We set out with Allah's Messenger in the year of Hunain, (the Prophet gave me an armor). I sold that armor and bought a garden in the region of the tribe of Bani Salama and that was the first property I got after embracing Islam.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَفْلَحَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ، مَوْلَى أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ عَامَ حُنَيْنٍ، فَأَعْطَاهُ ـ يَعْنِي دِرْعًا ـ فَبِعْتُ الدِّرْعَ، فَابْتَعْتُ بِهِ مَخْرَفًا فِي بَنِي سَلِمَةَ، فَإِنَّهُ لأَوَّلُ مَالٍ تَأَثَّلْتُهُ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ‏.‏

This hadith is about the experience of Abu Qatada when he embraced Islam and bought a garden in the region of the tribe of Bani Salama. He was given an armor by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which he sold to buy this property. This hadith teaches us that it is important to invest our money in something beneficial and productive like buying a property or investing in trade instead of spending it on unnecessary things. It also shows us that we should be grateful for what we have been blessed with and use it wisely for our benefit as well as others'. We should also remember that Allah will always provide us with opportunities if we are patient and work hard for them.
