Sahih al-Bukhari 2101 (Book 34, Hadith 54) #2017
Choosing Companions Wisely

SUMMARY: The hadith compares a good companion to a musk seller and a bad companion to a blacksmith's bellows, emphasizing the importance of choosing one's companions wisely.

Narrated Abu Musa: Allah's Messenger said, "The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in comparison with a bad one, is like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith's bellows (or furnace); from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof".

QUICK LESSONS:
Choose companions wisely
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of choosing our companions wisely. He compared having a good companion to buying musk or enjoying its pleasant smell while having a bad companion is like having the bellows of the blacksmith which can burn your clothes or house and give off an unpleasant smell. This hadith emphasizes that we should be careful in selecting our friends and associates as they can have either positive or negative influences on us. We should strive to surround ourselves with people who will help us become better Muslims and stay away from those who will lead us astray.
