Prohibiting Nabidh Made in Green Earthenware Jars

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forbade the consumption of Nabidh made in green earthenware jars, but it is unclear if this applies to white ones.

It was narrated that Ash-Shaibani said: "I heard Ibn Abi Awfa say: 'The Messenger of Allah SAW forbade Nabidh made in green earthenware jars'. I said: 'And white ones?' He said: 'I do not know'."
أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى، يَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَبِيذِ الْجَرِّ الأَخْضَرِ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ فَالأَبْيَضُ قَالَ لاَ أَدْرِي

This hadith tells us that the Prophet Muhammad forbade the consumption of a type of drink called nabidh made in green earthenware jars. It is unclear if this prohibition also applies to nabidh made in white earthenware jars. We should not consume anything without knowing its source or origin, as it may be prohibited by Allah or His Messenger.
