The Prohibition of Intoxicants

SUMMARY: Drinking thickened juice of grapes is permissible only when two-third of it has gone and one-third is left, and all intoxicants are unlawful.

It was narrated that 'Abdul-Malik bin At-Tufail Al-Jazari said: "Umar bin 'Abdul-Aziz wrote to us, saying: 'Do not drink the thickened juice of grapes (obtained by boiling it down) until two-third of it has gone and one-third is left. And every intoxicant is unlawful'."
أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدٌ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ الطُّفَيْلِ الْجَزَرِيِّ، قَالَ كَتَبَ إِلَيْنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ لاَ تَشْرَبُوا مِنَ الطِّلاَءِ حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ ثُلُثَاهُ وَيَبْقَى ثُلُثُهُ وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith was narrated by 'Abdul-Malik bin At-Tufail Al-Jazari, who reported that Umar bin 'Abdul Aziz wrote to them saying that drinking the thickened juice of grapes is permissible only when two third of it has gone and one third is left. Furthermore, he also mentioned that every intoxicant is unlawful. This hadith teaches us the importance of abstaining from any kind of intoxicant as it can lead to many negative consequences such as addiction or even death in some cases. It also teaches us moderation in our consumption habits so we don't overindulge in anything which can be harmful for our health or well being.
