Prohibition of Intoxicants Revealed

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the revelation of the prohibition of Khamr (intoxicants) and how it was poured away when they heard the news.

It was narrated that Anas said: "I was pouring (wine) for Abu Talhah, Ubayy bin Ka'b and Abu Dujanah among a group of Ansar when a man came in and said: 'Something new has happened; the prohibition of Khamr has been revealed'. So we poured it away". He said: "The only intoxicant in those days was Fadikh, a mixture of unripe dates and dried dates". And Anas said: "Khamr was forbidden, and most of their Khamr in those days was Fadikh".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the revelation of a prohibition on intoxicants such as wine and other alcoholic beverages. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik that he was pouring wine for some people when a man came in and said that something new has happened - the prohibition of Khamr has been revealed. Upon hearing this news, they immediately poured away all their intoxicants as it was forbidden in Islam. In those days, most intoxicants were made from a mixture of unripe dates and dried dates called Fadikh. This hadith teaches us to be obedient to Allah's commands even if we don't understand them right away or agree with them at first because He knows what is best for us even if we don't understand it yet.
