Sahih al-Bukhari 2058 (Book 34, Hadith 12) #1975
The Power of Prayer and Focus

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of not getting distracted from prayer and worship when something attractive or entertaining appears.

Narrated Jabir: While we were offering the prayer with the Prophet a caravan carrying food came from Sham. The people looked towards the caravan (and went to it) and only twelve persons remained with the Prophet. So, the Divine Inspiration came; "But when they see some bargain or some amusement, they disperse headlong to it". (62:11)

QUICK LESSONS:
Stay focused on your prayer even if something attractive appears before you .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of focus and dedication to prayer. It was narrated by Jabir, who was present when a caravan carrying food came from Sham while they were praying with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Most people left their prayers to go towards the caravan, leaving only twelve people with the Prophet ﷺ. At this point, Allah revealed a verse in the Quran that spoke about how people disperse headlong towards bargains or amusements when they see them. This verse serves as a reminder for us to stay focused on our prayers and worship even if something attractive appears before us. We should remember that our ultimate goal is to please Allah through our devotion in prayer and worship, not be distracted by worldly things that can take away from it.
