The Importance of Fulfilling Pledges

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of fulfilling a pledge to not associate anything with Allah, not steal, and not have unlawful sexual relations.

It was narrated that 'Ubadah bin As-Samit said: "We were with the Prophet SAW in a gathering and he said: 'Give me your pledge that you will not associate anything with Allah, you will not steal and you will not have unlawful sexual relations'- and then he recited the Verse to them'.Whoever among you fulfills this pledge, his reward will be with Allah, and whoever commits any of those actions and Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, conceals him, it is up to Allah: If He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give your pledge that you will not associate anything with Allah , you will not steal and you will not have unlawful sexual relations .

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, Prophet Muhammad [SAW] was in a gathering and asked his companions to give him their pledge that they will not associate anything with Allah, will not steal and will not have unlawful sexual relations. He then recited a verse from the Quran which states that whoever fulfills this pledge will be rewarded by Allah and if someone commits any of these actions but Allah conceals them, it is up to Him whether He punishes or forgives them. This hadith emphasizes the importance of fulfilling pledges made to God as well as encourages people to stay away from sins such as stealing or having unlawful sexual relations. It also teaches us that even if we do commit sins, we should always seek forgiveness from God for our mistakes. Lastly, it reminds us that ultimately all matters are in the hands of God and He has the power to forgive or punish us accordingly.
