This hadith is about theft and punishment. It was narrated by Rafi bin Khadij that he heard the Messenger of Allah say that stealing produce or the spadix of palm trees does not warrant cutting off the hand. Abu 'Abdur-Rahman An-Nasai said this is a mistake, but he did not know who Abu Maimun was, one of the narrators. This hadith teaches us that even though stealing is wrong, it should be punished in a way that fits its severity and does not cause harm to an individual's body parts. We should also be careful when we are narrating hadiths as mistakes can occur if we do not have enough information about our sources.
