Combining Worship with Necessities

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to let his head in the house while he was in the mosque and his wife Aisha would comb and oil his hair. When he was in I'tikaf, he would only enter the house for a need.

Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Allah's Messenger used to let his head in (the house) while he was in the mosque and I would comb and oil his hair. When in I'tikaf he used not to enter the house except for a need.

QUICK LESSONS:
Attend to necessary matters even during religious activities .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of combining worship with necessities. It is narrated by Aisha that Prophet Muhammad used to let his head into the house while he was in the mosque and she would comb and oil his hair. This shows that even when one is engaged in worship such as being in i’tikaf, it is still important to attend to necessary matters such as taking care of one’s hygiene. It also teaches us that we should not neglect our worldly duties even when we are engaging ourselves spiritually or religiously. We should strive for a balance between our spiritual life and our worldly life so that we can live a meaningful life here on earth before meeting Allah SWT on Judgement Day.
