QUICK LESSONS:
Follow justice while punishing thieves according to Islamic teachings.

EXPLANATIONS:
According to this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad prescribed cutting off the hand of a thief if they stole an amount of money equal to or greater than one-quarter of a Dinar. This punishment was meant to be a deterrent and discourage people from stealing. It is important to note that this punishment was only applicable when there were two witnesses who could testify that the person had indeed stolen something, and it was not applicable in any other situation. Furthermore, it is also important to note that this punishment was only applicable when the stolen item was worth more than one-quarter of a Dinar; if it were worth less, then no such punishment would be applied. This hadith serves as an example for us today on how we should deal with theft and other crimes in our society; we should strive for justice while also being mindful not to punish someone too harshly for their actions.
