The Practice of I'tikaf During Ramadan

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to practice I'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: Allah's Messenger used to practice I'tikaf in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، أَنَّ نَافِعًا، أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
I’tikaf is an Islamic practice that involves secluding oneself in a mosque for a certain period of time. It is usually done during the last ten days of the month of Ramadan. According to this hadith, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to practice it during this time as well. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet and take part in spiritual activities such as I’tikaf during this blessed month. It also encourages us to spend more time with Allah and seek His forgiveness and mercy through prayer and contemplation. Furthermore, it reminds us that we should make use of every opportunity given by Allah to increase our faith and draw closer to Him.
