Sahih al-Bukhari 1972 (Book 30, Hadith 79) #1892
Alternating Between Fasting & Praying

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would alternate between fasting and not fasting in different months, and he would also alternate between praying and sleeping at night.

Narrated Anas: Allah's Messenger used to leave fasting in a certain month till we thought that he would not fast in that month, and he used to fast in another month till we thought he would not stop fasting at all in that month. And if one wanted to see him praying at night, one could see him (in that condition), and if one wanted to see him sleeping at night, one could see him (in that condition) too.

QUICK LESSONS:
Find a balance in life by worshipping Allah through prayer & fasting while taking care of physical needs like sleep .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Anas ibn Malik tells us about the Prophet Muhammad's practice of alternating between fasting and not fasting in different months, as well as alternating between praying and sleeping at night. This teaches us that it is important to have balance in our lives; we should strive to find a balance between worshiping Allah through prayer, fasting, etc., while also taking care of our physical needs such as sleep. We should also strive for balance when it comes to our spiritual practices; sometimes we may need more time for prayer or other spiritual activities, while other times we may need more rest or leisure activities. By finding this balance, we can ensure that both our physical needs are met as well as our spiritual ones.
