Prohibiting Eating Donkey Meat

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad and his army arrived at Khaibar, and the people there ran away in fear. The Prophet then declared that Allah was great, and forbade his followers from eating donkey meat.

It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allah reached Khaibar in the morning, and they came out to us carrying their shovels. When they saw us they said: 'Muhammad and the army!' And they rushed back inot the fortress. The Messenger of Allah raised his hands, then he said: ' Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Khaibar is destroyed. Verily, when we descend in field of a people (ie near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! Acquired some donkeys there and we cooked the., Then the caller of the Prophet called out: 'Allah and His Messenger forbid you to eat the flesh of donkeys, for it is an abomination"'.
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ صَبَّحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ خَيْبَرَ فَخَرَجُوا إِلَيْنَا وَمَعَهُمُ الْمَسَاحِي فَلَمَّا رَأَوْنَا قَالُوا مُحَمَّدٌ وَالْخَمِيسُ ‏.‏ وَرَجَعُوا إِلَى الْحِصْنِ يَسْعَوْنَ فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ خَرِبَتْ خَيْبَرُ إِنَّا إِذَا نَزَلْنَا بِسَاحَةِ قَوْمٍ فَسَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَأَصَبْنَا فِيهَا حُمُرًا فَطَبَخْنَاهَا فَنَادَى مُنَادِي النَّبِيِّ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَرَسُولَهُ يَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ فَإِنَّهَا رِجْسٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's journey to Khaibar with his army. When they arrived, the people of Khaibar were so scared that they ran away into their fortress. In response to this, the Prophet raised his hands and declared that Allah was great. He then forbade them from eating donkey meat as it was an abomination according to Islamic teachings. This hadith teaches us that we should always be respectful of other people's beliefs and cultures even if we do not agree with them or understand them fully. It also teaches us to be mindful of what we eat as some foods are considered haram or forbidden in Islam. Finally, it reminds us of the power of Allah's greatness which should always be acknowledged in our lives no matter what situation we find ourselves in.
