Keeping Dogs and its Consequences

SUMMARY: Keeping a dog for any purpose other than hunting, herding livestock or farming will result in the deduction of one Qurat from one's reward each day.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet said: "Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for hunting, herding livestock or farming, one Qurat will be deducted from his reward each day".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow God's commands & Do good deeds

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of keeping a dog as a pet. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if someone keeps a dog, except for hunting, herding livestock or farming purposes, then one Qurat will be deducted from their reward each day. A Qurat is an amount of reward that Allah gives to people who do good deeds and follow His commands. Therefore, this hadith teaches us that we should not keep dogs as pets because it can lead to the loss of our rewards from Allah. We should only keep dogs if they are necessary for hunting, herding livestock or farming purposes.

This hadith also teaches us about the importance of following Allah’s commands and doing good deeds in order to receive rewards from Him. We must remember that all our actions have consequences and we must be mindful of how we spend our time and energy so that we can maximize our rewards from Allah on the Day of Judgment.
