Pledging Not To Commit Sins

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked his companions to pledge not to associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit unlawful sexual relations, nor kill their children; not to utter slander or fabricate lies and not to disobey him in goodness. Whoever fulfills this pledge will be rewarded by Allah and whoever commits any of these actions and is punished for it will be an expiation for him.

It was narrated that 'Ubadah bin As-Samit said: "While there was a group of his companions around him, the Messenger of Allah said: 'Pledge to me, that you will not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit unlawful sexual relations, nor kill your children; you will not utter slander, fabricating from between your hands and feet, and you will not disobey me in goodness (Ma'ruf). Whoever fulfills (this pledge), his reward will be with Allah, and whoever commits any of these actions and is punished for it, it will be an expiation for him. Whoever commits any of these actions then Allah conceals him, then his affair is up to Allah; if He wills He will forgive him, and if He wills punish him"'. (Sahih) Ahmed bin Sa'eed contradicted him.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey God's commands , Avoid Sinning , Take Responsibility .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ asked his companions to make a pledge that they would not commit any sins such as associating anything with Allah, stealing, committing unlawful sexual relations, killing their children or uttering slander or fabricating lies. He promised that whoever fulfilled this pledge would receive a reward from Allah and those who committed any of these sins but were punished for it would have their punishment serve as an expiation for them. If someone committed one of the sins but was forgiven by Allah without being punished then the matter was up to Him. This hadith teaches us that we should strive hard in avoiding sinning as much as possible because if we do sin then we must face the consequences either through punishment or atonement.
