Sahih al-Bukhari 1946 (Book 30, Hadith 53) #1866
Fasting on a Journey

SUMMARY: Fasting while travelling is not considered as righteousness.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: Allah's Messenger was on a journey and saw a crowd of people, and a man was being shaded (by them). He asked, "What is the matter?" They said, "He (the man) is fasting". The Prophet said, "It is not righteousness that you fast on a journey".

QUICK LESSONS:
Focus on other acts of worship such as prayer, charity and reciting Quran during travels instead of fasting
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was travelling and saw a crowd of people surrounding one man who was fasting. He asked what the matter was and they said that he was fasting. The Prophet ﷺ then said that it is not righteousness to fast while on a journey. This hadith teaches us that although fasting is an important part of Islam, it should not be done while travelling as it can be difficult to do so and may cause harm to the person's health. Instead, Muslims should focus on other acts of worship such as prayer, charity, and reciting the Quran during their travels instead of fasting.
