Fighting for Faith

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that Muslims should fight until people accept the Islamic faith, and if they do, their lives and wealth will be protected.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that : The Messenger of Allah SAW said: "We will fight the people until they say La ilaha illallah. If they say La ilaha illallah then their blood and their wealth become forbidden to us, except for a right that is due, and their reckoning will be with Allah".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect others' beliefs; protect life and property; seek justice peacefully when possible .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of faith in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad taught that Muslims should fight until people accept the Islamic faith, and if they do, their lives and wealth will be protected. This means that even though it is permissible to fight for one's beliefs, it is also important to respect those who have different beliefs. If someone accepts Islam as their religion then they are no longer a target of violence or aggression from other Muslims. Furthermore, any rights due to them must still be respected even after conversion. Ultimately however, each person's fate lies in the hands of Allah alone as He will judge them according to His laws on Judgment Day.
