Fighting for Faith

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was commanded to fight people until they accept the Islamic faith, and if they do, their blood and wealth are protected.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW said: 'I have been commanded to fight the people until they say La ilaha illallah. If they say it, then their blood and wealth are prohibited for me, except for a right that is due, and their reckoning will be with Allah, the Mighty and Sublime".

QUICK LESSONS:
Spread one's faith ; Respect all people regardless of belief ; Protect life and possessions when no wrong has been done against them .
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of faith in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad was commanded by Allah to fight those who did not believe in Him until they accepted the Islamic faith. If they accepted it, then their blood and wealth were protected from harm except for a right that is due. This means that even if someone does not believe in Allah, their life and possessions should still be respected as long as no wrong has been done against them. Ultimately, it is up to Allah to judge them on the Day of Judgment. This hadith teaches us that we should respect all people regardless of their beliefs or lack thereof, but also encourages us to spread our faith so others may benefit from its teachings too.
