Making Vows Regarding Unattainable Things

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that it is not permissible to make a vow regarding something that one does not possess.

It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah that the Prophet said: "There is no vow to commit an act of disobedience or with regard to that which the son of Adam does not possess".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest and careful when making promises or commitments
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that it is not permissible to make a vow regarding something that one does not possess. This means that we should be careful when making promises or commitments, and only do so if we are sure we can fulfill them. We should also be mindful of our words and think before speaking, as the consequences of our words can have far-reaching effects. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us the importance of being honest in all aspects of life, as making false promises or vows is considered an act of disobedience in Islam.
