The Forbidden Practice of Making Vows

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad forbade making vows and said that they do not change anything, but are just a way of taking money from the miserly.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah forbade vows and said: 'They do not change anything; they are just a means of taking wealth from the miserly'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your wealth, Ask Allah sincerely for help, Trust in His mercy and wisdom

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the practice of making vows, which is something that the Prophet Muhammad forbade. A vow is a promise to do something or give something in exchange for Allah's help or blessing. According to this hadith, making such promises does not actually change anything; it only serves as a way for people who are stingy with their wealth to give away some of it. This teaches us that we should be generous with our wealth and not try to use religious practices as an excuse for being miserly. We should also remember that Allah will always help us if we ask Him sincerely and trust in His mercy and wisdom.
