Vows and Oaths Should Not Involve Sinning

SUMMARY: Making a vow or oath should not involve committing sin or severing the ties of kinship.

'Amr bin Shu'aib narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah said: "There is no vow and no oath concerning that which one does not possess, nor to commit sin, nor to sever the ties of kinship".

QUICK LESSONS:
Make honest promises/vows/oaths; Respect family relationships; Avoid sinning

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that we should not make vows or oaths that involve doing something wrong or sinful. It also tells us to be careful about our relationships with our family members and not to do anything that would hurt them. We should always strive to maintain good relationships with our family members and treat them kindly. Additionally, we should never make promises about things we don't have control over because it is impossible for us to keep those promises.
