Sunan an-Nasai 3787 (Book 35, Hadith 27) #18402
Breaking Oaths for Better Options

SUMMARY: It is better to do something better than to keep an oath if a better option presents itself.

It was narrated that 'Adiyy bin Hatim said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever swears an oath, then sees something better than it, let him do that which is better and leave his oath'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Think before making promises/commitments; Strive for the best outcome; Be flexible in decisions.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Adiyy bin Hatim states that the Messenger of Allah said that if someone swears an oath and then finds something better than it, they should do what is best and leave their oath. This hadith teaches us that it is important to be flexible in our decisions and not be bound by our promises when a more beneficial option presents itself. We should always strive for the best outcome even if it means breaking our word or going against what we have promised. This hadith also encourages us to think before we make any promises or commitments as we may find ourselves in a situation where we are unable to fulfill them due to unforeseen circumstances.
