Swearing by Allah Alone

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised against swearing by anything other than Allah.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever swears, let him not swear by anything other than Allah'." The Quraish used to swear by their forefathers, and so he said: "Do not swear by your forefathers".

QUICK LESSONS:
Swear only by the name of Allah.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us that we should only swear by the name of Allah and not by any other thing. This is because the Quraish used to swear by their forefathers and so he said not to do this. We should remember that when we make an oath or a promise, it is important to keep it as it is a sign of trustworthiness and honesty. We must also remember that if we break our oath or promise then we are going wrong in the eyes of Allah and will be held accountable for our actions on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, it is important for us to always be truthful in our words and deeds so that we can gain the pleasure of Allah.
