The Prohibition of Giving Things on the Basis of Ruqba or 'Umra

SUMMARY: Giving something on the basis of Ruqba or 'Umra is not allowed and whatever is given in this way belongs to the heirs.

Sufyan narrated from Ibn Juraij, from 'Ata', from Jabir that the Messenger of Allah said: "Do not give things on the basis of Ruqba or 'Umra. Whoever is given something on the basis of Ruqba or 'Umra, it belongs to his heirs".

QUICK LESSONS:
Do not take advantage of your parents' love for you; Be fair when distributing gifts and inheritance among family members; Respect your parents' wishes regarding their possessions after they pass away.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is prohibited to give things on the basis of Ruqba or 'Umra. Ruqba refers to a gift given by a father to his son before his death, while Umra refers to a gift given by an adult son to his father before his death. Whatever is given in this way belongs solely to the heirs and not just one person. This hadith teaches us that we should be fair when distributing gifts and inheritance among our family members, so that no one feels left out or neglected. It also encourages us not to take advantage of our parents’ love for us by asking them for gifts which will only benefit ourselves after their death.
