Taking Care of Orphans

SUMMARY: The Prophet advised a man to take care of his orphan by using the property of the orphan without being wasteful or keeping it for himself.

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, from his grandfather, that a man came to the Prophet and said: "I am poor and I do not have anything, and I have an orphan (under my care)". He said: "Eat from the property of your orphan without being extravagant, wasteful or keeping it as capital for yourself".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about taking care of orphans and their property. The Prophet advised a man to use the property of an orphan under his care without being extravagant or wasteful with it. He also warned against keeping it as capital for himself. This hadith teaches us that we should be responsible and take good care when managing someone else's property especially if they are not able to do so themselves such as orphans who have no parents or guardians to look after them. We should be mindful not to misuse their resources and instead use them in a way that benefits them most while still being mindful not to waste any resources unnecessarily. It also teaches us that we should be generous with our own wealth and help those in need whenever possible so they can benefit from our generosity too.
