Sunan an-Nasai 3496 (Book 27, Hadith 108) #18108
Dispute Over Son Resolved by Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a woman who was in dispute with her husband over their son. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised the son to take the hand of whichever parent he wanted, and he chose his mother.

It was narrated that Abu Maimunah said: "While I was with Abu Hurairah he said: 'A woman came to the Messenger of Allah and said: May my father and mother be ransomed for you! My husband wants to take my son away, but he helps me, and brings me water from the well of Abu 'Inabah. Her husband came and said: Who is going to take my son from me? The Messenger of Allah said: "O boy, this is your father and this is your mother; take the hand of whichever of them you want". He took his mother's hand and she left with him'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Consider what is best for children; allow them autonomy in decision making where possible; be kind towards your spouse even if you are in disagreement with them; seek peaceful resolutions without involving third parties such as courts or judges .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about a dispute between a husband and wife over their son. The woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for help, as her husband wanted to take away their son from her. However, she mentioned that her husband helps her and brings water from the well of Abu 'Inabah for them both. In response, the Prophet asked the boy which parent he wanted to go with - his father or mother - and he chose his mother's hand. This shows us that even in disputes between parents, it is important to consider what is best for children and allow them to make decisions on their own behalf when possible. It also teaches us that we should be kind towards our spouses even if we are in disagreement with them; this kindness can help resolve disputes peacefully without involving third parties such as courts or judges.
