This hadith is about the compassionate justice that the Prophet Muhammad showed when a man, Thabit bin Qais, hit his wife, Jamilah bint 'Abdullah bin Ubayy, and broke her arm. Her brother came to the Messenger of Allah to complain about him. In response, the Messenger of Allah sent for Thabit and asked him to take what she owed him and let her go. He agreed and then the Prophet Muhammad ordered Jamilah to wait for one menstrual cycle before going back to her family.
